Oregon Repertory Singers welcomes Grammy® Award-Winning Composer and Conductor in An Afternoon with Eric Whitacre... VIDEO ON DEMAND!

Arguably the most popular living composer of choral music, ERIC WHITACRE’s heart-wrenching compositions have been programmed by millions of amateur and professional performers across the globe. This spring he conducts Oregon Repertory Singers (ORS) in many of his most beloved works including “Leonardo Dreams of his Flying Machine,” “Lux Aurumque,” and “Water Night.”

Audiences across the globe will be “fully immersed in the lush harmonies and chords that make WHITACRE’s compositions so distinctively beautiful,” says ORS Artistic Director and Conductor DR. ETHAN SPERRY, "and there is nothing better than getting to know the person behind the music. ERIC chooses such special texts to set to music and explains so clearly how those poems inspired his music. I have been continually inspired by his music and his humanity for almost 25 years, and I'm so excited that we get to share him with the ORS audience."

AN AFTERNOON WITH ERIC WHITACRE also features three Northwest premieres from a generation of composers influenced by WHITACRE’s music, conducted by DR. SPERRY: KO MATSUSHITA (Japan), DARIUS LIM (Singapore), and ILY MATTHEW MANIANO (The Philippines). The Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir, prepared by new Artistic Director AUBREY PATTERSON, also performs. This is the first time both the adult choir and youth choir programs perform together since PATTERSON took the helm of the burgeoning youth program. “I’m thrilled to bring together 7th–12th grade singers from 21 schools in the Portland area for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. WHITACRE has an incredible ability to empower and excite singers of all ages; to work with a composer and conductor of his stature can be life changing.”

The last two years brought unique challenges to performing arts organizations, obstacles that ORS met head on. ERIC WHITACRE praised the group, “Bravo to Oregon Repertory Singers and Ethan Sperry for keeping the flame alive.”
