Conducting Fellow
Matthew Davis, a Southern California native, is a versatile conductor quickly making a name for himself throughout the region. He completed his undergraduate training at the University of Southern California, studying conducting under Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, Dr. Cristian Grases, and Donald Brinegar. During this time, he sang with the USC Chamber Singers, Concert Choir, Apollo Men's Chorus, and Flos Campi Early Music Ensemble. Since graduating, he has sung with Donald Brinegar Singers and the Choir of St. Wilfred of York in Huntington Beach under Dr. Christopher Gravis.
Davis is currently pursuing his Master of Music in choral conducting at California State University Fullerton, where he studies under Dr. Robert Istad, Dr. Christopher Peterson, and Professor Kimo Furumoto. He sings with the university’s premier ensemble, which has performed with Kathleen Battle, Andrea Bocelli, Pacific Symphony, and Pacific Chorale, and recorded albums with composer John Williams and Sony Classical. Davis serves as the assistant conductor for CSUF Concert Choir and the student opera program, and has prepared full productions of L’enfant et les sortilèges and Così fan tutte. Recently, he also served as interim choir director at Diamond Bar High School, during which time his show choirs received top marks at competitions all over Southern California. Davis also serves as artistic director of the Walnut Valley Symphony Orchestra and Master Chorale which, under his leadership, have been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall.
